Rich, fudgy Black Forest Brownies are perfect dessert for Valentine’s Day!
Ingredients:
- 3 cups pitted and halved cherries
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp cherry or cranberry juice
- 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
1. Simmer cherries, sugar, and water for 5 min. Remove from heat, stir in juice.
2. Preheat oven to 350°F and line an 8-inch pan with parchment.
3. Melt chocolate and butter together. Set aside.
4. In a bowl, beat eggs, sugar, and oil until doubled in size.
5. Fold in melted chocolate and vanilla. Sift in flour, cocoa, and salt, then fold in chocolate chips.
6. Layer half the batter, add half the cherries, then top with remaining batter and cherries.
7. Bake for 35-40 min. Let cool, slice, and dust with powdered sugar!

Beet Muhammara:
1 roasted red bell pepper (charred under the broiler, peeled)
1 roasted beet (400°F for 45 min)
½ cup panko crumbs
½ cup walnuts
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1½ tbsp pomegranate molasses
1 garlic clove
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp Aleppo pepper
½ tsp cumin seed (toasted & ground)
Instructions:
1. Roast 1 red bell pepper under the broiler until charred, place in a covered bowl for 15 min, then peel.
1. Roast 1 beet at 400°F for 45 min until tender.
2. Toast ½ tsp cumin seed, then grind.
3. Blend roasted bell pepper, beet, ½ cup panko crumbs, ½ cup walnuts, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1½ tbsp pomegranate molasses, 1 garlic clove, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp Aleppo pepper, and cumin in a food processor until smooth. Season to taste.
4. Boil potatoes until fork-tender, toss with olive oil & salt, then roast at 400°F for 20 min until crispy.
5. Spread muhammara on a plate, top with crispy potatoes, and drizzle with labneh mixed with lemon juice.
