Day in the Life as a Private Chef: Brazilian-Themed Surprise Dinner

Recently, I organized a Brazilian-themed surprise dinner for two to celebrate a milestone achievement. Set on a stunning rooftop overlooking the ocean, the evening featured an array of grilled meats, traditional Brazilian dishes, and a special gluten-free, dairy-free tres leches cake. Join me as I take you through the preparation, execution, and behind-the-scenes details of this extraordinary celebration.

Day in the Life as A Private Chef: Brazilian – Themed Surprise Dinner

Brazilian cuisine is a celebration of bold flavors & hearty ingredients from juicy grilled meats and vegetables to the comforting richness of feijoada, a hearty bean stew. Brazilian cuisine is a feast for both the palate and the soul, where every bite is filled with warmth, and celebration. Inspired by my client’s love for this vibrant food culture, I was excited to design a menu rooted in Brazilian flavors to elevate their special surprise dinner.

Event Preparation

When crafting a Brazilian-inspired menu, featuring iconic dishes like char-grilled meats, rice, and beans is essential. I sourced Picanha (sirloin cap) and Churrasco from Marcondas, known for its quality meats and cuts. Fresh produce, including seasonal vegetables for grilling, was sourced from The Original Farmers Market. Desserts, including a Flan and a dairy-free, gluten-free Tres Leches based on dietary restrictions, were a great addition. Vibrant flavors accompanied the meats, such as Tomato and Onion Molho for the Picanha, Chimichurri sauce for the Citrus-Marinated Churrasco, and Creamy Aji Verde for the lamb chops. Alongside the client’s preferences, here are some beloved Brazilian classics:

  • Feijoada
  • Moqueca (Brazilian Seafood Stew)
  • Brigadeiros (Chocolate Truffles)
  • Pão de queijo (Cheesy Bread)
  • Acarajé (Deep-Fried Black Eye Pea Patties)

The Menu

The menu for this special dinner combined traditional Brazilian flavors with personalized touches. Starting with a Heirloom Tomato and Burrata Salad topped with truffle oil and flaky salt, the appetizers set the tone. Entrees featured Brazilian Picahna with Tomato and Onion Molho, Citrus Mojo Marinated Churrasco served with Chimichurri, and Marinated Grilled Lamb Chops with Creamy Aji Verde. sides included White Rice with Feijoada, Pan Fried Sweet Plantains, and a variety of Grilled Vegetables with Pineapple. For dessert, guests enjoyed a gluten-free, dairy-free Tres Leches topped with strawberries and a Flan with a caramel shard, a perfect ending to a memorable evening.

The setting was as important as the menu itself, creating a beautiful backdrop for this Brazilian-themed dinner. I decorated the outdoor table with flickering tea lights and scattered rose petals, setting a romantic ambiance. Against the backdrop of a glowing outdoor fire and the stunning ocean view during sunset, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical, enhancing the dining experience with an unforgettable blend of flavors and scenery.

Post Event

As the evening wound down, with happy guests chatting and enjoying the last bites of dessert, I shifted into the final phase, the kitchen breakdown. I tackled the kitchen cleanup, scrubbing counters and washing dishes until everything was left just as I found it. Leftover food was packed for the clients, making sure they could enjoy the dishes later on. After packing up my gear and supplies, I thought back on the night— filled with a blend of flavors, laughter, and celebrating special moments under the starry sky. Another chapter closed, leaving behind memories of an unforgettable Brazilian-themed surprise dinner.
