Tips for making the best matcha waffles

Made from scratch waffles are easier than you think. Here are a few tips to ensure they are all your matcha waffle dreams come true.

  • Separate egg whites from egg yolks. To get a fluffy waffle interior you’ll want to separate your eggs, beating the egg whites until stiff peaks form then folding that into your waffle batter.
  • No buttermilk? No Problem. Here’s an easy trick when you don’t have buttermilk at home. Add a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a cup of milk. Let it stand 15 minutes and there you go.
  • Prevent a mess by not overfilling your waffle iron. The batter always spreads out more as it cooks so be weary of that. Also, make sure to put a sheet of aluminum foil under your waffle maker in case there is spillage for easy cleanup. because the batter will spread out when the waffle iron is closed.
  • Cooking spray is your friend, even if you’re using a nonstick iron. Adding a little bit of cooking spray will ensure you have no issues with sticking once your waffles are done.
