Ingredients

Waffles

  • 2 ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup butter (melted)
  • nonstick spray (as needed)
  • 1 ½ tbsp matcha powder
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Black Sesame Whipped Cream

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp black sesame powder

Instructions

  • Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, salt, and matcha into a bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix egg yolks, buttermilk, and vanilla until combined. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the egg mixture into the center, mixing slowly with a rubber spatula.
  • Add in melted butter and mix until fully incorporated, being sure not to overmix.
  • In another bowl, whip egg whites to stiff peaks. Gently fold egg whites into the waffle batter.
  • Spray your waffle maker with nonstick spray and turn to low/medium heat. Following your waffle maker's manufacturer's instructions, cook waffles until golden brown and crisp. (For a standard waffle maker, about 1/4 cup of batter typically works. Cook waffles for about 2-3 minutes).
  • Make black sesame whipped cream by adding heavy cream, powdered sugar, and black sesame powder to a bowl. Whip until stiff peaks form.
  • Top your waffles with black sesame whipped cream, fruit, and any other toppings of your choice. Enjoy!
